Jennifer Scott is a senior solicitor in our Corporate & Commercial team and a member of our Charities & Education team. She advises clients from our Reading, Henley-on-Thames and Wokingham offices, as well as remotely.

Jennifer primarily advises charities, schools and other third sector organisations in relation to charity law and regulatory matters, including general governance, Charity Commission and Charity Law compliance and the formation, incorporation or conversion of charities.

She also advises a broader range of businesses and organisations on a variety of commercial issues. Jennifer is recommended in The Legal 500 and a member of the Charity Law Association.

She re-joined Blandy & Blandy in 2024, having completed her training at the firm and spent time working in-house for large national charity and at another regional firm.

Examples of recent work

  • Providing advice to a variety of different charities, not for profit organisations and Community Interest Companies.
  • Advising charity clients on restructuring, recommending suitable charitable vehicles upon incorporation (including Charitable Incorporated Organisations and Charitable Companies), dealing with the transfer of assets and obtaining the Charity Commission's consent (where required).
  • Dealing with Charity Commission compliance and submitting cases to make regulated amendments to a charity's governing document requiring Commission consent.
  • Advising on charitable objects and preparing applications for organisations to be registered with charitable status, including the conversion of Community Interest Companies to Charitable Incorporated Organisations.
  • Advising on regulatory and compliance matters, from drafting conflict of interest policies to advising trustees in carrying out investigations following internal allegations.
  • Advising on mergers, which has included the mergers of charitable independent schools and not for profit organisations.
  • Data protection: drafting cookie and privacy policies (for external and internal business use) and advising on, and dealing with, DSARs on behalf of clients.
  • Intellectual property: advising and preparing trade mark applications, advising on copyright and drafting licensing agreements and negotiating co-existence terms and undertakings.
  • Contract matters (including for private and third sector clients): general terms and conditions (B2B and B2C), influencer and social media endorsement agreements, SaaS agreements (including software as a subscription), supply arrangements for goods and services.
